takeMS DDR2 power for notebooks
DOC
PDF
At the 2005 CeBIT, Memorysolution will be one of the first manufacturers to introduce 512 MB DDR2-533 SO-DIMMs for use in notebooks and other portable computers. And, even more importantly, the takeMS modules will be available in large quantities after the CeBIT.

Germany, Breisach/Hanover, March 7, 2005 - To meet the increasing demand for DDR2 modules for notebooks, Memorysolution, one of the leading European memory specialists, will exhibit the first samples of its takeMS DDR2 SO-DIMMs at the 2005 CeBIT. The 512 MB modules delete cas latency of 4-4-4 makes them just as fast as normal takeMS DDR2 memory. The takeMS module is arranged on a 6-layer printed circuit board (PCB) and build using 32Mx16 FBGA DRAM.

With this module, Memorysolution is one of the first manufacturers to be able to offer modules for portable computers. Production will begin while the CeBIT is underway so that sufficient quantities of the modules will be available starting mid-March. Shortly thereafter, 1 GB modules will also be available.

"We made a conscious decision to start with 512 MB and a clock speed of 533 MHz because we don't think it would make any sense to equip premium notebooks with any less memory or to install slower memory modules," says Gerald Diercks, Managing Director of Memorysolution. "The system performance of mobile computers is also primarily dependent on the size and speed of the RAM, a development which is still supported by the various multimedia applications on portable computers."

For the SO-DIMMs as well, the new fine-pitch Ball Grid Array (FBGA) case design proves less susceptible to interference and the "on-die termination" (ODT) makes it free of signal distortion. The supply voltage, which has been lowered to 1.8 V, has also noticeably reduced the amount of heat loss on the module, thus significantly reducing demands on product design for mobile computers. The reduced need for power also increases the life of the batteries.

Like all takeMS modules, the DDR2-533 SO-DIMMs have been manufactured in line with German quality standards and meet the strict JEDEC specifications and Intel's extended requirements. Prices for the new DDR2 SO-DIMMs will only be available after the CeBIT.
